Weekly Recap & Awards No. 4
Brotherly Affair at Whataburger Field - Photo Below
Tuloso-Midway got a 9-2 win over Colbert Oklahoma at Whataburger Field last Monday, but the big story was the family ties between the teams.
You may have been wondering why a random team from Oklahoma is playing down in Corpus. Well, their head coach, Zach Crabtree, is brothers with Tuloso-Midway's Head Coach, J.K. Moody. Colbert is the #2 Ranked team in Class 2A back in Oklahoma, so they are no pushover of a ballclub. Crabtree actually served as Moody's coach in high school, so perhaps Moody used that to his advantage in this one.
The Warriors were led by Landin Ford with a bases-clearing, 3-RBI Triple in the sixth inning. Max Lara paved the way on the mound with 9 strikeouts over 6 innings pitched, and also added 2-RBI to his cause. The Warriors looked solid in their outing, and would later pick up a win in their district opener at Zapata, winning 12-11. Their overall record sits at 14-5-1, with their district record being 1-0.

College Spotlight - Rylan Galvan, Texas Longhorns Catcher
Take a bow, Rylan Galvan. There might not be a hotter bat in college baseball right now. The Texas Catcher, and former Sinton Pirate, is batting an impressive .423 in SEC Play, fresh off back to back series wins to start their tenure in the SEC. The Horns swept Mississippi State on the road, and hosted the #2 team in the nation in LSU this past weekend. In both series, Galvan has been huge for the Longhorns on offense. He leads the team in Home Runs with 9, and his SEC on-base percentage is up to .500. Be sure and check out his highlights from the LSU series- he hit a massive go-ahead homer on Saturday night to help propel the horns to a win.
Just think, to be doing all of that, in arguably the best baseball conference in the country? At this rate, Rylan is making quite the case to MLB scouts looking for a catcher. He also leads the team in RBI's on the season, sitting at 24. Galvan has become a centerpiece of this Texas Baseball team, and they continue to look to make a run at Omaha under their new Head Coach, Jim Schlossnagle.

Pro Spotlight - Jose Trevino, Cincinnati Reds Catcher
This week’s pro spotlight shines on a true fan favorite, Jose Trevino. It was announced last week that The Cincinnati Reds were signing Jose to a 3-year, 'almost' $15 Million extension to keep him with the team through 2027, with an option for 2028.
First, Congrats to Jose and his family. I’ve known him for several years now, and I genuinely couldn’t be happier for them. The guy works as hard as he can, every day possible. He’s earned every penny up to this point, and it’s so nice to see him finally get paid. Celebrate that! This week he will begin his first MLB campaign in Cincinnati, so keep an eye out for him while you're watching games.
It's hard enough to get to the point to play professional baseball, but getting there AND staying there? That's a whole other thing. It all goes back to how hard he works. Getting paid and having some security in the league is an awesome thing to see for him. He's coming up on his 8th season of MLB action, and he's become one of the top defensive players in the league. He is a veteran leader and someone who brings value into a clubhouse, which is likely another reason that the Reds were quick to extend him.
If you're not a Jose Trevino fan, it's not too late. And if you're a Red Sox fan, like me, it's a whole lot easier to buy a jersey of his now that he isn't in those Bronx pinstripes anymore. The Reds open the season on March 27th at 2:10 p.m. CT against the San Francisco Giants.

Upcoming Glance - By Marcus Sarate
District play has arrived for just about everyone! This week, I'll be out watching some smaller schools play. I'll be at Port Aransas vs. Refugio at Whataburger Field, followed by Taft vs. Odem.
I'm finally over the hurdle of being sick, and it's nice remembering what having a clear sinus feels like. That also means that I can finally get back out to some games! If you have any fun pieces of information, across any level of play, be sure and let us know. You can reach us through the site or through a message on Facebook.
Looking forward to the rest of the season and getting a glimpse into potential playoff matchups. It feels like baseball goes by too quick after tournament season! Enjoy it!
